Friday’s Random Ten, Part 3

So it’s Monday again. Maybe should change to Monday Random Ten. Or not be a slackass.

  • Red Hot Chili Peppers - On Mercury (Track 13 of “By The Way”, 2002)
  • Kataklysm - To Reign Again (Track 4 from “In The Arms of Devestation”, 2006)
  • Alph-Lyla - Rockman 4 ~ Skullman -Soldier of The Underworld- (Track 4 of “ROCKMAN Arrange Version SPECIAL CD”, 1990)
  • Demons & Wizards - Gallows Pole (Track 10 of “Alive in Athens”, Disc 3, 1999)
  • Jimmy Eat World - Sweetness (Track 5 of “Bleed American”, 2001)
  • Opeth - Patterns In The Ivy (Track 7 of “Blackwater Park”, 1995)
  • Killswitch Engage - Rusted Embrace (Track 4 of “Killswitch Engage”, 2001)
  • Big Giant Circles, Liontamer, zircon - Adrenalyne Kyck (Track 8 of “Final Fantasy VII - Voices of the Lifestream”)
  • Nobuo Uematsu - Cait Cith’s Theme (Track 20 of “Final Fantasy VII Original Sound Track”, Disc 2, 1997)
  • Evil Horde, RoeTaKa - Infiltrator (Track 13 of “The Dark Side of Phobos”, Disc 2, 2005)

Reflections?

  • I <3 this FFVII remix. Zircon (Andrew Aversa), the guy who made the music for Lazybrains, is such a badass. This track is no exception.
  • Followed by a FFVII OST track. I know what I’m listening to today.
  • Since I got a hit on my DOOM and FFVII OC ReMiX albums, this reminded me of a problem with the last.fm tagging scrobbling system. I wish last.fm would track individual artists in collabs, so all three artists in this remix get “credit” rather than the group of them.

I’m glad this meme has you thinking about tagging and scrobbling, because that’s a big part of it to me.

I disagree about your collab statement. Think about Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, and Demons & Wizards. Should Jon Schaffer and Hansi Kürsch get additional tally points for that? Should IE and BG?

Well, Hansi and Jon formed D&W as a standalone band/project. The OC ReMiX albums have collabs on a song-by-song basis, not an entire album worth of material. There is very few overlaps of collabs with these albums (like, Remixer A and Remixer B may collab for one song, and if they do it again, it might include Remixer C, which would be a whole new “artist” scrob/tag) so I look at D&W as a standalone project, no different than IE and BG, but these ReMiX collabs as a one-time (or temporary, with the chance of reuniting again in the future) and I’d like to give individual credit for these songs, because there isn’t one unifying project-name in the artist category.

Also, just look at WHAT’S being scrobbed. It’s “Demons & Wizards”, not “Jon Schaffer, Hansi Kürsch”. I’ve wanted to just tag the OCR songs as “OC ReMiX” as the artist, and then in the notes and comments, one would find who participated in this song, similar to a “Featuring Malone from Arsis”, rather than sullying up an artist or song tag with the “Featuring..”. ReMiXers might have a different take on it, as it would be removing credit from the artist tag. Maybe I’ll ask Andrew [zirconstudios.com] sometime how he feels about OCR and tags!
